About the Pig

The Pig is the twelfth and last animal in the Chinese zodiac, and there is a sweet reason it came in last. In the legend of the Great Race, the Pig set off like everyone else, but along the way it grew hungry and stopped to eat a tasty meal. With a full belly, the sleepy Pig decided to take a little nap before finishing. When it finally woke up and ambled across the river, the Pig happily took twelfth place, completing the whole zodiac.

People born in the Year of the Pig are kind, generous, and easygoing. A Pig enjoys good food, good friends, and a relaxed, happy day, and it shares whatever it has with a warm and cheerful heart.

When you color your Pig, look at the round, friendly curves in the design. They come from jianzhi (剪纸), the Chinese art of paper-cutting, where artists snip plump, happy shapes from folded paper for festivals. Try soft pinks and rosy reds, then add a golden border around the whole design, the colors of luck and a joyful new year in China.
