About the Tiger
The Tiger is the third animal in the Chinese zodiac, and what an entrance it made. In the legend of the Great Race, the powerful Tiger jumped into the wide river sure it would win. But the water pushed and pulled with strong currents, and the Tiger had to swim with all its might just to keep from being swept away. It finally clawed its way to the shore in third place, soaking wet but proud.
People born in the Year of the Tiger are brave, full of energy, and ready for adventure. A Tiger loves to lead the way and is not afraid of a challenge, but it also has a warm and protective heart for the people it cares about.
When you color your Tiger, follow the bold stripes across its body. Those flowing patterns come from jianzhi (剪纸), the Chinese art of paper-cutting, where artists snip striking shapes from folded paper for festivals. Try fiery oranges and rich blacks for the stripes, then frame the whole design in red, the color of bravery and good luck in China.
