About the Horse
The Horse is the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac, and it galloped through the Great Race with real spirit. In the legend, the Horse swam bravely across the wide river and was almost in sixth place. But just as it reached the shore, a Snake that had been hiding near its hoof slithered out and startled it. The Horse jumped back in surprise, and in that moment the quick Snake slipped ahead, so the Horse came in seventh.
People born in the Year of the Horse are energetic, cheerful, and love to be on the move. A Horse enjoys running, playing, and exploring new places, and it brings a happy, bouncy feeling to everyone around it.
When you color your Horse, follow the flowing lines of its mane and tail. They sweep just like jianzhi (剪纸), the Chinese art of paper-cutting, where artists snip windswept shapes from folded paper for the new year. Try warm chestnut browns and golden yellows, then add bright red around the design, the color of energy and good luck in China.
